Parameter and predictive outcomes of model simplification and calibration

This work presents a systematic analysis of the outcomes of model simplification and calibration. The effect of simplified model calibration upon model predictive performance is shown to be highly prediction-specific. The same simplification and calibration approach may improve predictive performance for some predictions whilst actually degrading that for others. More Information

Determining groundwater ages in heterogeneous environments.

Quantifying the age of groundwater in complex geological environments remains a challenge for groundwater scientists. We are investigating the limits of current methods and proposing new methods for quantifying these ages. More Information

Determining groundwater discharge and chemistry from multiple aquifers by longitudinal river sampling

This project establishes a new method for estimating the location(s) of groundwater discharge to a river and its chemistry by sampling river water. This method may be particularly useful in remote areas where access to groundwater is limited or impossible, drilling is not an option due to budget constraints, and to identify contamination sources. Effects of land use change on groundwater and surface water resources

This PhD research investigated the impact of a young tree plantation on water quality and quantity at a study site in southwest Victoria. The plantation was found to reduce the amount of water leaving the catchment as the trees use more water than an adjacent farm. More Information

The Murray-Darling Basin has a long history of irrigated agriculture using both surface water and groundwater resources.
